Our Catholic Faith provides a firm foundation of instruction and character development. We offer a comprehensive Sacramental Preparation Program for all students in all situations. Baptized students from second grade and up are eligible to begin the First Holy Communion program. Baptized students from grade six and up can enroll in the two-year Confirmation program. For students who are not yet baptized, a Baptismal Instruction program is available. Children over the age of seven can speak with our school’s Coordinator of Religious Education, Ms. Rachel Csak, while parents of children younger than seven years old are encouraged to contact the Parish Office at (212) 254-0200.
Children preparing to receive any Sacrament are expected to attend Sunday Mass weekly, either here at Immaculate Conception Church or at a parish near their home. Mass attendance can be fulfilled at any Mass on Sunday or Saturday evening. Mass attendance is an important obligation for all Catholics, especially for those families who have children preparing to receive Sacraments. Failure to attend weekly Sunday Mass will lead to a delay or postponement in the child receiving the Sacrament.
Parents of the candidates for sacraments must attend at least seven hours of instruction following the scheduled Family Mass. The dates for 2016-2017 are: September 25, October 23, November 20, January 29, February 26, March 26, April 30, and May 21.
Persons selected to be Confirmation sponsors or godparents must be Catholic and in good standing, having received the needed Sacraments (Baptism, Confirmation and First Communion) and should attend Mass regularly. If married, they should be married by the Church. If they are not a registered parishioner of Immaculate Conception, they can provide a letter of testimony from their home parish.
We also wish to extend a welcoming hand to those in our parent community that are not baptized, or who are themselves missing a Sacrament. We urge all interested parents to make arrangements through Father Flanagan at the Parish Office: (212) 254-0200.
The Religious Education program staff are always willing to work with interested members of our school community to ensure that all have access to the Church.
