Frequently Asked Questions

How are classes being run during the COVID-19 pandemic?

Immaculate Conception School began the 2020-2021 school year on September 9, 2021 offering 5 days per week in-school or remote learning for all students. We have made the best of a most unusual time and look forward to remaining on-track for the rest of this school year. Remote and in-person learners are taught simultaneously; classes are being broadcast live as they occur, with opportunities for interaction from at-home learners.

Location and transportation

We are conveniently located near the corner of 14th Street and 1st Avenue. The M14 and M15 bus lines, as well as the L train, have stops right on our corner and we are only a few blocks from Union Square. Student Metro Cards are available.

What are the school hours?

Arrival for all grades is from 7:50am to 8:05am. Dismissal is staggered beginning at 2:20pm for the youngest students and ending at 3:00pm for 8th graders.

What do students eat?

Students have access to free breakfast and lunch programs through the Department of Education, or can bring meals from home. Students eat in the classroom this year in order to support safe cohorts during the pandemic, but we have a beautifully renovated cafe for normal operations.

Is there a dress code?

Like most Catholic schools, ICS has a dress code. Students from grade K through 8 wear school uniforms, which can be ordered online through Lands’ End.

Are there services available for children who need them?

ICS does provide many services covered by IESPs. During the COVID pandemic, SETTS and Title I services are being provided remotely, and outside of school hours.

How can parents get involved?

Parents are regarded as a child’s first teacher, and ICS has an open communication policy to help our faculty work with parents in order to best serve their children. Additionally, our Parent Student Association is very involved throughout the school year. The PSA holds many fun events throughout the year such as Family Bingo Night, Halloween Parties, Spirit Day, Photos with Santa, Bake Sales, Family BBQ, June Fest, and more.
